The arrangements for this year’s Junior Week are well underway and we’re hoping for another fun action packed week.

For those who’ve not heard of Junior Week before (I do have to ask, where have you been?!), it’s a Monday to Friday week of all things you can think to do on a sailing dinghy and even some you couldn’t imagine!
It’s a fully organised event which is overseen by RYA Senior Instructors and a group of Dinghy Instructor/Assistant Instructor qualified coaches, safety boat drivers and parents. This year, it’s scheduled for Monday 31st July to Friday 4th August 2023.

It’s open to all junior members (whether FOSSC student members in their own right or family members) coming to the end of school years 6 to 11 inclusive. They do need to hold a minimum of a YSS level 2 or Oppie level 2 certificate by the time Junior Week starts. The maximum number of children is 40, places are allocated as requested/booked.

Many of the juniors like to use their own boats but club boats can be reserved, allocated on a first come/first served basis at the time of booking (at no cost). Each day runs between 10am and 5pm. You can camp at the club during the week as the facilities in the club house are available, however anyone under 16 planning to stay over must be accompanied by an adult after 5pm.

The cost of Junior Week is £120 per child, which includes a limited-edition Junior Week hoodie. Additional hoodies can be bought at a cost of £30 each.

Each day, participants will need to bring a packed lunch and at least one change of clothes (they are guaranteed to get wet!). Parents are rostered for one or two duties (primarily shore based) during the week and asked to supply cakes to keep everyone fuelled for an extremely active and enjoyable week!

For further information, to reserve a place etc, please email Diana Heming; jw@fossc.org.uk or call on 07967 160105.

And finally, this will be my last year of organising Junior Week, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my years of doing so, however it’s time hand the baton on to someone new. If you’re willing and able, then please do get in touch. It is really rewarding to see the children having such a wonderful time, for some I’m told it’s the highlight of their year! Diana

Without the support of other club members: safety boat drivers, DI/AI’s, shore based helpers etc, Junior Week couldn’t happen.

WE ARE ESPECIALLY IN NEED OF QUALIFIED DINGHY INSTRUCTORS AND ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS THIS YEAR AS A NUMBER OF THE REGULARS WE CALL UPON HAVE MOVED ON TO UNIVERSITY OR WORK.

IF YOU ARE OR YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO MAY BE AVAILABLE AND WILLING TO HELP THAT WEEK – PLEASE DO CONTACT DIANA. JW@FOSSC.ORG.UK 07967 160105
